Join in on a real Eindhoven tradition to see the ‘Lichtjesroute’ on a bike ride through the city. The route is illuminated by many light fixtures to commemorate liberation and freedom.
The bike ride is around 22 km long and is an easy paced non-competitive cycle, you don’t need a fancy bike to join in. We’ll make short stops at different locations on the route to take some pictures, stretch our limbs and have a chat. The ride is estimated to take about 2,5 – 3 hours.
Please bring your own water or other drink so you can have a sip on the go. In case of heavy rain or storm the bike ride will be rescheduled if possible. The lights will be up until 11 October.
We´ll meet up in front of The Student Hotel Eindhoven, Stationsweg 1. From there we will pick up the route at the 18 Septemberplein.
ABOUT THE LICHTJESROUTE
The Lichtjesroute is an event to commemorate the Second World War liberation of Eindhoven on 18 September 1944. To celebrate the liberation in an ‘Eindhoven-way’, citizens placed candles and light bulbs in their windows to show the light was back in their lives.
The aim of the light route is to preserve the memory of the liberation, portraying commemoration and freedom, but also the illusion of ‘fairytales in light’.
By using hundreds of thousands of light bulbs and LED lights the Lichtjesroute entertains 200.000 people every year that drive, walk or cycle this light route.
Please keep in mind the coronavirus / COVID-19 guidelines as set by the Dutch government. Be mindful of your own and other people’s protection and feeling of safety and comfort.
Do you or one of your household members have cold symptoms, shortness of breath and/or elevated temperature? Do NOT join the bike ride, avoid social contacts and get tested.
