Gay and LesBian Social Connection The Netherlands

LHBTI Lesbisch & Homo Meetup Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht

Let’s view “Picasso & Matisse. Beauty is a line”, an online exhibition

Recently, I’ve discovered that Rijksmuseum Twente in Enschedé, has put a few web exhibitions and collections on their website. I’d like to invite you to join me on an online visit to the digital exhibition “Picasso & Matisse. Beauty is a line” of this museum.

Time schedule (approx.):

14.00 hrs. We’ll start and gather on Zoom for some small talk.
14.30 hrs. We’ll start the visit of the online exhibition on the website of Rijksmuseum Twente (https://www.rijksmuseumtwenthe.nl/content/2761/nl/digitale-tentoonstelling-picasso-amp-matisse-beauty-is-a-line)
15.30 hrs. We’ll meet again on Zoom to talk about what we’ve seen.

IMPORTANT

Unfortunately, the website of the museum and also the online exhibition are only in Dutch. But the museum states “You’ll often find what you’re looking for by translating your search term with Google Translate. The quality of the results varies, and we are sorry for any inconvenience.”

I’ve had quick look into the exhibition and there’s is a lot to see and enjoy, apart from the dutch texts. So, it should be enjoyable for non-Dutch people too. Otherwise, there are more online exhibitions of the museum which can be viewed.

booktalk: The Discomfort of Evening

This week I read that the 2020 International Booker Prize shortlist includes a book by a Dutch writer. What better time than now to read a book or two?!

De Avond is Ongemak (2018) | The Discomfort of Evening (2020)
By Marieke Lucas Rijneveld

So I cycled past a shop today and got the books :). I will read at least one during the next two weekends. I’d love to talk about it asap, so join me and others in this virtual room:

https://whereby.com/peerpool

This should be easy to use. It doesn’t require installing any software or creating an account. Simply open the link (Opera, Firefox, or Chrome, on either your laptop or phone) and follow three steps: enter a name, set the webcam and microphone permissions, and knock.

The room can house up to 12 connections, hence the attendee limit.

I’ll be logged in from 19:15 and suggest we start at 19:30, first with a round of introductions followed by a structured discussion of the book.

I have not organised one of these before but I have been to a few. I am open to suggestions, comments and people jumping in to take the lead.

PS I also published this event in the Nerdy Queer Women/NB+ group.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE “STOP MOTION”

Stop-Motion was created by house choreographers Sol León & Paul Lightfoot for their daugther Saura as part of the NDT 1 repertoire. The ballet premiered on January 29, 2014 and was filmed in 2018 in co-production with Mezzo and La Belle Télé, directed by Tommy Pascal.
On melancholic music by Max Richter seven dancers depict a process of farewell and transformation. As ephemeral as the dust, they grace the stage like ghosts or spirits; lighting up in and fading out. In this way, many elements in Stop-Motion address the notions of past and future and how they merge into the present.

“Beautiful images of mind-blowing dance (…) Dance as a visual poem in which design and music determine the iambic and where the dancers bring metaphors and emotions to live.”
TROUW 2014

Looking forward to seeing you online,
Timothy

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE “CLOWNS”
http://cinedans.nl/day-2-clowns/

Shot at the iconic Rivoli Ballroom in South London, Clowns plays out a macabre comedy of murder and desire, asking how far will we go in the name of entertainment. While the performance combines bold, exhilarating and tribal movement with a percussive, cinematic score, the choreography of the camera provides theatrical ensemble shots and close-up sequences that draw the audience members straight into the madness of the interaction between the ten dancers on stage.

The performance Clowns premiered at NDT 1 in 2016 and made a crushing impression on the press and public. Hein Janssen named Clowns in de Volkskrant one of the best performances of 2016.
The film Clowns is performed by the dancers of Shechter’s own company in Great Britain. The Hofesh Shechter Company is resident at Brighton Dome and Shechter is an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells in London.

Timothy
